Double win for ‘Best Indie’ Big Talk at the Broadcast Awards 2017

A big night for Big Talk as the company wins two awards, including one for Best Comedy ‘Mum’, at the ceremony in London.

Big Talk Productions has been named Best Independent Production Company and brand new sitcom Mum, starring Lesley Manville and Peter Mullan, has been crowned Best Comedy at the Broadcast Awards 2017.

After a hugely successful year, which included the launch of critically-acclaimed Mum, the Rose d’Or-winning second series of Raised By Wolves and a long-awaited sixth series of Cold Feet, Big Talk saw off fellow nominees ITN Productions, RDF Television, Sid Gentle Films, Studio Lambert and Twofour to be recognised as the Best Independent Production Company, while Mum faced strong competition from Camping, Catastrophe, Chewing Gum, Fleabag and Murder in Successville to claim the Best Comedy prize.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday 1st February at Grosvenor House in London and hosted by Jonathan Ross, also saw nominations for the widely-praised return of Cold Feet, nominated in the Best Drama Series or Serial category and for the Timeline TV Moment of the Year Award for ‘Pete gets Drumming’.

Mum, written by Stefan Golaszewski, and which was described as a ‘subtle masterpiece’ by The Times, stars Lesley Manville, Peter Mullan, Sam Swainsbury, Lisa McGrillis, Ross Boatman, Dorothy Atkinson, Marlene Sidaway and Karl Johnson. The comedy reunited the creative team behind the BAFTA award-winning sitcom for BBC Three’s Him & Her and aired in May 2016, shortly before being recommissioned for a second series.
